Below is the link to an article describing research done at the Harvard Graduate School of Education on loneliness in the USA.
Surprisingly, survey data showed that the loneliest people were those in the ages of 30-44 years old. These are the percentages of people who reported feeling lonely "frequently" or "always" broken down by age range:
29% of people between 30 and 44 years old
24% of 18-29 year olds
20% of 45-64 year olds
10% of people aged 65 years old or older.
The study also showed that many people who reported feeling lonely had many people in their lives. However, they still reported feeling disconnected or not cared for.
